With heavy heart, we announce the passing of William A. “Billy” Vaughn, who departed this world on January 14, 2025, at the age of 75.
Billy was born on September 7, 1949, in Atlanta, Georgia, and was a beloved son of Margie Newton Vaughn and JD Vaughn. Billy retired from B.P. Iron Company, where he used his excellent people skills to sell construction iron. Passionate about his personal life and his church family, Billy exemplified the traits of kindness and loyalty, which he graciously extended to all who knew him. He loved pulling a wagon loaded with his kids and grandkids around with his tractor.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Janice; son, Philip Johns; and his sister, Teresa Rashford Haney.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and enduring relationships through his surviving family, which includes his sons and daughters-in-law, William Vaughn Jr. (Marilyn), Doug Vaughn, Bobbie Vaughn, Jeff George (Penny), Greg George, and Donnie George; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry Vaughn (Cookie); sister, Cynthia Cutler; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Billy loved Glenloch and his many good friends there. He cherished his time driving the church bus with Jimmy Horn, was always looking forward to visits from Terry Harper, and put Pastor Neil right up there with Kirby Smart and Vince Dooley. He often reflected on how lucky he was to be part of such an awesome family. Billy’s memory will persist as a guiding light for those he leaves behind-a testament to a simple life well lived.
His friends and family are invited to honor his life and legacy during the visitation on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Glenloch Baptist Church, with Rev. Neil Awbrey officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 PM until the hour of service. Interment will take place in the church cemetery immediately after the service.
Flowers are welcome. However, those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Billy’s name may do so to Glenloch Baptist Church, www.glenlochbaptist.org.
