Mr. Samuel David Hughes, Sr., 65, passed away on January 31, 2017 at his residence in Starkville. Mr. Hughes was born June 13, 1951, in Baton Rouge, LA., the son of Colleen Melancon Hughes and the late Samuel David Hughes, Sr. Mr. Hughes was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Hughes worked as a Welder and in Construction for many years and then became a Security Guard at Eurocopter in Columbus. Mr. Hughes married Martha Nealy on August 23, 1973, in Marshall, TX. Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his father: Samuel David Hughes, Sr.; his grandparents: Samuel and Martha Hughes and Jospeh and Elia Melancon; his step-father: George Jones, Sr.; one Uncle, Saul Melancon and one Aunt, Mae Greene. Graveside services will be Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. from Moore’s Cemetery in Brooksville with Mr. Mark Carruth officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include His Wife Marty Hughes of Starkville; His daughter, Chastity Pate (Kenneth) of Pheba; His son, Samuel David Hughes, Jr. (Beth) of Starkville; His two granddaughters, Paige Taylor of Pheba and Amber Voyles of Tupelo; His great- granddaughter, Zoey Taylor of Pheba; His Mother, Colleen Jones of Sturgis; His sister, Angie Reece (Tommy) of Starkville; His two brothers, Audie Hughes (Cindy) of Starkville and George Jones (Jennifer) of Sturgis and a number of Nieces and Nephews. Pallbearers will be David Hughes, Ernie Smith, Kenneth Pate, Adam Winfield, Keith Vickers, Brandon Vickers, and T.J. Reece.
