Rhodie Mae "Mickie" Thames

Carrollton, Georgia

It is with grateful hearts for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Rhodie Mae “Mickie” Thames, who entered her eternal rest on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the age of 87.

Born on August 23, 1938, in the close-knit Clem community, Mickie was the daughter of the late George Richard Nolen and Annie Lee Veal Nolen. She grew up surrounded by family, faith, and values that shaped the gentle, devoted woman she would become.

For 61 years, Mickie shared a beautiful love story with her husband and best friend, Joseph “Joe” Thames. Their marriage was one built on companionship, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Whether they were attending car shows, enjoying a quiet drive, or simply sitting side by side, they found their greatest joy in being together. Though they were not blessed with children of their own, Mickie’s heart was far from empty. She poured her love into her nieces and nephews, embracing each one as if they were her own. To them, she was more than an aunt; she was a steady presence, a listening ear, and a second mother.

Mickie lived her faith daily as a devoted member of Providence Baptist Church. Her relationship with the Lord guided her steps and softened her spirit. She carried herself with quiet grace, always ready with a warm smile or a gentle word of encouragement.

For many years, Mickie served others as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Autumn Square. Nursing was not just her profession; it was an extension of who she was. She had a natural gift for caring for people, offering comfort in difficult moments, and dignity to those in her care. Even in retirement, that nurturing spirit never faded.

She is survived by her loving sister, Carolyn Nolen Moon, and brother-in-law, Jerry Moon, along with a host of nieces and nephews who will forever treasure the love and wisdom she shared. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe, and her brothers, Elbert, Selby, and Wendell Nolen. One can only imagine the joyful reunion as she was welcomed home.

Mickie’s life was not measured in grand gestures, but in faithfulness; faithful love, faithful service, and faithful devotion to those she held dear. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Mickie’s life will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026 in the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home at 3 PM with Rev. Wayne Webb officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 PM until the hour of service.

Messages of condolence may be shared with the family at www.martin-hightower.com. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel is honored to serve the Thames family.
