Mrs. Petonia Downs Obituary (1930

Mrs. Petonia Downs, 89, passed away on April 17, 2019, at her residence in Maben. Petonia was born on March 13, 1930, in Ripley, the daughter of the late Henry Luther and Roxie Hunnsucker Shelton. Petonia was a member of Pheba Baptist Church. She was a member of the Cedar Bluff Quilting Club and was an avid and accomplished quilter. She enjoyed vegetable gardening, crafts, making dolls, and painting. She was married to Harvey Leo Downs and he passed away August 7, 2007. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters Funeral services will be Friday, April 19, 2019, at 2:00 P.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Terry Rhodes officiating.. Burial will follow in Pheba Cemetery in Pheba.. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Survivors include her four daughters, Glenda C. Prather of Maben, Dianne Cook of Memphis, TN, Charlotte Bennett (Frank) of Memphis, TN, and Carolyn McFalls (Bud) of Maben: one son, Lex Wilson (Becky) of Memphis, TN: Seventeen grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Paton Miller, Jeff Meisenholder, Will Meisenholder, Brad Golson, Reggie Dill, Sam Dill, Dwayne Perry, and Joe Jernigan. Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of the Cedar Bluff Quilting Club, Nurses and Staff of Mississippi Home Care in Starkville, and her Special Caretaker: Irene Avant.
