Olajuwon P. Ashley, 24, of California, formerly of Michigan City, departed this life in the Baldwin Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, on July 24, 2016. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Stanley Mason officiating. Burial to follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 5, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Olajuwon was born Oct. 30,1991,in Michigan City, Indiana to Levi Ashley,and Marilyn Smith. He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church while living in Michigan City. He graduated from Inglewood High School in 2012 in Inglewood, California. Olajuwon presently worked at the Forum as a security guard. Prior to his move to California, he continued his passion for boxing at the Irish pub here in Michigan City, Indiana. Olajuwon loved to dress, was a comedian, loved taking selfies, and was very charming with the ladies. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Levi Ashley, and Versie and Lonnie Dabney; maternal grandparents, Mattie (Daniel) Mitchell and Cosie (Bernice) Daniel; three aunts, Sabrina Ashley Nixon, Yolanda Frierson and Julia Daniel-Smith; one cousin, Chantel Mack. Olajuwon leaves to cherish his fond memories his father, Levi Ashley, of Los Angeles, California; his mother, Marilyn (Haywood) Smith, of Michigan City, Indiana; three sisters, LaMattia Ashley of Michigan City, Indiana, Patricia (Gregory) Walton Moore and Lajoura Greer both of South Bend, Indiana, and step-sister Jacqueline Smith, of Indianapolis, Indiana; three brothers, Terry "Patrick" (Shannon) Taylor, of Michigan City, Indiana, Alvin Woods of Baltimore, Maryland, and Levi Ashley III, of Portland, Oregon; paternal grandmother, Melissa Ashley; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
