Morden "Marty" Cheeks Obituary (1951

Morden "Marty" Cheeks, 61, departed this life on February 14, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Spoken Word Faith Center 7224 W 400 North, Michigan City, Indiana; with Rev. Thomas Payton, officiating. Visitation will be 12 p.m. until the time of service at the church. He was born December 27, 1951 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Nathan Cheeks and Eva (Byrd) Cheeks. Marty accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist church; he attended Elston High School and in the early 70's he worked at Allis Chambers. Marty was an avid fisherman and he loved jazz music. He leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter, Rose Eva Cheeks, Michigan City, Indiana; two sisters, Marzall Jackson, Michigan City, Indiana; and Charleszetta (Nick) Hardwick, Detroit, Michigan; nieces Jamaya, Andrea and Nakeea; nephews Christopher, Quintin and Evelle; great nieces Tempest, Shyla, Janeica and Ashli; great nephews Nathan, Ricky, Milton and Christian; great-great nieces Zionanna and Makayla; great-great nephews Jamel and Emir; aunts Sophia Byrd and Gladys Byrd; special cousins Dorothy Robinson, Johnny Byrd, Aaron Byrd and Elmo Long; special friends Rose Loeza and Ellis Allen; and a host of cousins and friends. Marty was preceded in death by one sister, Frances L. Cheeks.
