Mary Allison

Mary Ellen Bergman-Allison, age 79, of Chilton, died on September 9, 2026, at Willowdale Nursing Home in New Holstein. She was born November 4, 1946, in Iowa City, Iowa, daughter of the late William and Marian Bergmann.

Mary had a fiery spirit and she could get a bit snarky when her sarcasm kicked in. She was known to shake her fist at people when she didn’t like something she heard. She worked in food service most of her life, starting as a roller-skating waitress and ending up at the University of Iowa where she was in their food service department until she retired. She was certainly a Hawkeyes fan but came to love the Badgers as well. She enjoyed line dancing and trips to the casino to play penny machines or Bingo.

Mary is survived by her children: Rebecca Bergmann Voelker (significant other, John), Denise Propson, Jeff (Kelly) Propson, Darlene Thurwachter, and Norman Propson, Jr. (significant other, Sandra); grandchildren: Cassi (Kyle) Kettner, Austin (Renee) Voelker, Ciara Voelker (significant other, Bobbie Jo), Trenton, Miranda, and Caitlyn Propson, Jordan and Tanner Seipel, Chase Propson, Shelby Thurwachter, Megan Propson, Chloe (Ean) Enzer; great-grandchildren: Blake and Grace Kettner, Cameron Voelker, Tate Propson; siblings: Richard Bergmann (significant other, Retha), Kathryn Kurth, and Roberta Bergmann; a sister-in-law: Sheryl Bergmann; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Jerald Allison; her parents: William and Marian; brother: Robert Bergmann; sister-in-law: Jan Bergmann; and her first husband and the father of her children: Norman Propson, Sr.

A funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 5:45 pm at the funeral home on the day of service. Mary will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
