Kathryn Swift-Stringer Obituary (1948 - 2024)

Kathryn Rita Swift-Stringer, a dedicated, charismatic, and inspiring woman, was born on March 1, 1948, in Astoria, New York. Kathryn lived a life marked by her passion for education and her unwavering commitment to her family. She was an intelligent woman who spent thirty years in special education, touching countless lives and leaving an indelible mark on every student she encountered. Kathryn was a beacon of strength and wisdom, always up for fun, and had a knack for making everyone feel special and loved. Kathryn relocated from New York to Chesapeake, Virginia, where she continued her noble profession and spent her leisure time reading, traveling, and most importantly, spending quality time with her beloved grandchildren. Her love for her grandchildren and her dedication to the youth of the Great Bridge Presbyterian Church were the cornerstones of her life. The light of her life was her family, and she took great pride in their accomplishments. Her charismatic charm and inspiring tenacity will forever resonate in the memories of those she loved. Kathryn is survived by her children, Colleen Wieber, Brendan Vitek, Tara Vitek and Caitlin (Jeremy) Weber; her grandchildren, Sarah (Alex) Vitek, William Gillis, Brendan Vitek, Alison (Devon) Ferguson, Addison Bateman, Casey Sears, Elsie Bateman, Gabriel Vitek, Fintan Weber and Riordan Weber. She is also survived by her brothers, Kevin (Mary) and John, the Ya-Yas, Cathie Love, Jane Breen and JoAnn Allen and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents, John Swift, Jr. and Margaret Swift; her daughter-in-law, Sherrin Vitek; and her infant grandson, Michael Vitek. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Great Bridge Presbyterian Church, 333 Cedar Road, Chesapeake at 11:00 AM. A reception in the Fellowship Hall will immediately follow. The service will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Lou Ventura.
