John Webb

Carrollton, Georgia

John Alfred Webb, M.D., 98, passed away on April 2, 2025, in Carrollton, Georgia. He had recently moved to Georgia after living in Texas for over sixty-five years. John was born on April 30, 1926, to Helen Hutcheson and Elmer C. Webb in Mountain View, Arkansas.

He graduated from the University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas School of Medicine. John then entered the United States Army, completing an internship at Letterman Army Hospital. From 1953 to 1954, he served on active duty as a company doctor in Trieste, Italy. After returning to the U.S., he served in the reserves, eventually reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He had a profound sense of patriotism and duty and truly loved serving his country.

John completed his Pathology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where he remained on staff before moving to Houston, Texas, and entering private practice. Later, he moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, where he retired. Throughout his career, John contributed to the fields of Medicine and Pathology by serving in various organizations, including as a councilor for Texas with the Southern Medical Association and as President of the Texas Society of Pathology, among others.

He had a passion for his Brittany bird dogs, which led him into field trialing. He and his family traveled to many Midwestern states for campaigning and judging Brittanys. John served as president of the American Brittany Club and was on the board of directors for the Birddog Foundation and Museum in Grand Junction, Tennessee. Fishing was another of his beloved hobbies, and he enjoyed trips with family and friends, from the cold waters of Canada and Alaska to the warm waters of Mexico and South America, including the Amazon. He returned home with fishing tales and stories of bear encounters!

John was preceded in death by his eldest son, John Jr., and his eldest grandchild, Ann W. Medlock. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judy McCleskey Webb; his sons, David (Biddie) Webb of Houston, TX, Chris Webb of Cortez, CO, and Scott (Darcy) Webb of Federal Way, WA; grandson-in-law Brad Medlock; great-grandchildren Hunter and Hayden; grandson David (Molly) Webb and great-grandchildren Max, Kate, and Cam; and grandsons Steve and Spencer. As an only child, he added special family members, Joe (Linda) Bundscho and Doug (Judy) McCleskey.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Martin & Hightower at 2 PM on Saturday, April 5th. A private interment at the Georgia National Cemetery will follow at a later date.
