John (Jack) Kelly Dunn Jack Dunn, a vibrant and independent spirit, entered the world in Washington DC in 1953 to the loving embrace of the late John and Evelyn Kelly Dunn. He peacefully departed us on February 4th, 2024, at the age of 70 in Washington, Utah, surrounded by family and dear friends. Jack's zest for life and infectious enthusiasm left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. In his youth, Jack found joy in collecting comic books, sleigh riding down Woodridge Hill, and marveling at the sleek designs of Corvettes, Camaros, and Thunderbirds. His talents and creativity seemed endless. He spent countless hours meticulously building and painting model cars, drawing superheroes and Disney characters, and mastering the guitar. He was a natural athlete who was great at anything he set his mind to, excelling in swimming, diving, football, and later discovered a passion for hiking and mountain biking. Graduating from Parkdale High School in Riverdale, Maryland, Jack was drawn to both music and art. By the age of 20, he had seen some of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time, including Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. Initially he attended Corcoran School of the Arts at George Washington University with the idea of becoming a Disney animator. However, a transformative visit to Disney World in 1971 inspired him to embark on a cross-country road trip, exploring America's National Parks. Zion National Park completely captured his imagination, leading him to work there in 1975 and nurture his career as a musician. Jack had a remarkable discipline and talent for music, performing and traveling with various bands throughout his twenties. As Jack’s family expanded, he settled in northern Utah and took a job as a skycap at the SLC airport. Balancing fatherhood with his love for music and the outdoors, he dedicated 27 years to his role at the airport, continuing to perform at many venues and events, and for the enjoyment of family and friends. Jack instilled in his children a profound love and appreciation for the outdoors, teaching them to swim, hike, bike, and camp from a young age. If they couldn't walk, they were in his backpack. His fervor for mountain biking eventually became a consuming passion. He retired from the airport and moved to Southern Utah to be closer to his beloved slick rock and single-track trails, continuing to perform as a musician. Zion National Park held a special place in Jack's heart and mind, becoming a treasured family destination and backdrop to countless cherished memories. The park was a steady anchor for him and served as a muse for his dedication to music, a haven for his faith in Jehovah God, and a reminder of paradise on Earth. He loved showing people the area and sharing his knowledge of the plants, animals, history, and geography. Jack was endeared to so many and has left a hole in our hearts, but his legacy inspires us to get outside and never lose our sense of childlike wonder in this awe-inspiring landscape. He is survived by his three children: Trieste Kelly Dunn, Lauren Raquel Dunn, and Joshua Kyle Dunn, and four siblings: Carol Dunn, Patricia Dunn-Fierstein, Michael Dunn, and Debbie Sweeney. He is predeceased by one sibling, Steven Dunn. The memorial service will be held Saturday, February 24th, from 12-1pm at Red Cliffs Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses 626 S 1100 E Saint George Utah 84790.
