James Archilles Reed

When the time comes to bid this life farewell, we should find comfort in knowing that a loving God will be there with us to guide us to our new home.

James Archilles Reed, age 86, passed away on January 24, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on March 14, 1939, in Louisa County, Virginia. James lived a full life rooted in family, love, and connection, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Winston Johnson Reed and Richard G. Reed; his brother, Everette “Beanie” Reed; his daughter, Sherry Reed; his granddaughters, Bettina Reed and Destiny Reed; and his grandson, DeShawn Reed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Lou Johnson Reed; his son, Gregory R. Reed (Kaye); his daughters, Angela Martin and Theresa Vanison-Diggs; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many cherished friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Wayland Baptist Church1228 Oakland Road Louisa, Virginia 23093 with Pastor Carla Scott officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
