Jackie Paul (Bud) Day

–

Galena, Kansas

Day, Jackie Paul (Bud), passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the age of 74. He was born February 7, 1948 to Matthew and Pauline Day, both proceeding him in death. Bud has two surviving daughters (Carri and Tammi), four grandchildren (Ty, Kaylon, Malia, Kale), two son-in-laws (Brian and Jason), three brothers (Jim, Bob, Tom), and numerous extended family members in the area. Bud was proud to call Riverton, Kansas home for his entire adult life. He cherished the small-town atmosphere and the relationships that he made. His close friends meant a lot to him which was often discussed with the family.

Bud was an educator and coach for thirty-three years. He retired as the Industrial Arts Teacher from Riverton School District in 2002. His most proud accomplishments were the young people he mentored during his time as a teacher and coach. There are too many names to mention. However, he became adult friends with David Neal who he appreciated and respected very much. Also, the various baseball championships he coached were extremely proud moments he carried throughout his life. After retirement, he continued to follow his ambition to help young people and the school district as he served on the Board of Education, as well. Also, during his retired years, he continued his passion for teaching toward his friends at their “Last Chance Garage,” where he enjoyed the camaraderie of restoring older cars to “show condition.”

Bud was an avid Ford Car enthusiast. He enjoyed attending swap meets, car shows, and spending time during most days working on his and others’ cars. Bud actually still owned his original car from his teenage years. In fact, his daughters were able to take him with two of his cars to the car show in Carthage, Missouri just a few weeks before he passed.

Bud lived his life to the fullest. He continued to enjoy making trips to town, watching sports, working on cars, spending time with family and friends, and might even have been known to make a routine visit to the casino.

All friends and family are welcome for an informal event to celebrate Bud. The celebration of Bud’s life will take place on December 18, 2022 from 1:00 pm– 3:00 pm at the Riverton Community Center.
