Mrs. Ima L. McNeal Obituary (1925

Mrs. Ima L. McNeal, 89, Michigan City closed her doors to life at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 at Clare Bridge Assisted Living. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 730 W. 6th St., with Rev. Kendall Washington, officiating, visitation 10 a.m. at the church until the time of service. Burial will take place on Monday at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Ima McNeal was born Jan. 31, 1925, in Humphrey, Arkansas, to the late Samuel Martin and Seasi B. Finley-Martin. On May 22, 1942, in Humphrey, Arkansas, she married her soulmate Richard McNeal, whom preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 2010. In 1952 she moved to Michigan City, Indiana. She became united with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church; she was a faithful member for over 50 years. She served in the Nurses Ministries, in the Missionary Society, Sunday school teacher, and Intercessory Prayer warrior and on the Building Fund Committee. She loved her family and cherished her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She loved to cook and working in her yard Ima leaves to cherish her fond memories, one daughter Marilyn J. (Tyrone) Perteet and one son Richard L. (Samara) McNeal both of Michigan City, Indiana; three grandchildren Vernesa L. (Tim) Perteet-Byrd, Atlanta, Georgia, Von L. (Brandice) McNeal, Indianapolis, Indiana and Brett Allen McNeal, Carmel, Indiana; five great-grandchildren, Princeton R. and Madison M. Byrd both of Atlanta, Georgia, Kobie, Gabrielle and Chrystan McNeal all of Indianapolis, Indiana; special niece Alberta (Joe) Frasure, Michigan City, Indiana; special goddaughter Vera Foster, Michigan City, Indiana and one godson Rev. Timothy (Karen) Taylor, Indianapolis, Indiana; three special sister in-laws Bobbie Martin, Gloria Martin both of Michigan City, Indiana and Lilly Martin, San Jose, California and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by eight brothers Samuel D. Martin, Lawrence Martin, Fred L. Martin, Leo Martin, James Martin, Rev. Waldo Martin, Maurice Martin and Clarence Martin; three sisters Thelma McNeal, Beatrice Williams and Ida Davis.
