Gertie Parro Obituary (1933 - 2024)

DONT MENTION AGE OR BIRTHDAY A private memorial service will be held at a later date for Gertie P. Parro, resident of Baldwin, who passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. Gertie was dedicated to her career for over 20 years and retired from the Louisiana Department of Education, Migrant Ed. Program. Through her work, she helped many students in the St. Mary Parish area and did so with a loving heart. Gertie had a vibrant spirit, witty sense of humor, and friendly nature. She relished dancing to Cajun French and Classic Country music, and cherished the time spent with family and friends. Her warm hospitality extended through her love for cooking and entertaining. Gertie had a passion for collecting antique treasures and took great pride in decorating her home. She was known for her deep love of flowers and plants and loved sitting outside by her beautiful koi pond. Gertie was raised on Weeks Island and later settled in Baldwin, where Gertie resided for the rest of her life. Towards the end of her life, she was lovingly cared for by her family, devoted companion, and compassionate caregivers. Survivors include one son, Derek Parro; five grandchildren, Kica Talbot, Kered Parro, Kynan Parro, Klint Parro, and Dylan Hart; seven great-grandchildren, Kassidy Talbot, Gabe Parro, Lanni Mire, Noah Luke, Madison Parro, Kati Parro, and Bailey Parro; and two great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of extended family and friends who cherished her dearly. Gertie was preceded in death by her husband, Sheldon J. Parro; two sons, (infant) Sheldon Parro, Jr. and Craig Parro; her parents, John Penn and Elma Broussard Penn; her sister, Genevieve Penn Tevay; and her brother, Kassel Penn. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her longtime companion, Earl “EP” Patin; her dearest friend, Lou Babin and caregivers, Regina “Genie” Benoit, and Melina for their loving care and support.
