Gary Lee Inman Obituary (1938 - 2021)

Houston's master-home builder, Gary Lee Inman, 83, of Boerne, Texas, passed into the glorious arms of his Savior on August 7, 2021. He was president and owner of Mainland Construction. Gary was born in Springfield, Missouri, and moved to Houston with his family at the age of nine. Gary was a hardworking, fastidious, and detail-oriented man, and he established himself as a trusted name in business, a reliable and honest man to work with, and a mentor to many. While Mainland Construction was, in many ways, his life's work, Gary also had many other pursuits over the course of his life. After taking a break from college to serve in the Marine Corps, Gary graduated in 1961 from Baylor University. After college, he entered the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and was ordained as a minister. He worked for several years as a youth minister and associate pastor in the Houston area. While Gary did not remain a pastor, his love of God was evident to everyone around him, through his kind and gentle demeanor, his devoted acts of service, his love of children, his care for the downtrodden and less fortunate, and his strong sense of justice. He was an intensely loyal and committed person, and many people benefitted from his quiet and humble acts of charity and generosity over the years. In his final years, he was a devoted member of Christ of the Hills Church in Boerne, where he served as a board member. Like his father before him, Gary was an incredibly devoted and loving dad, and was adored by all those for whom he served as a father figure. He is survived by an extensive and loving family: his wife, Millie Norwich Inman; his son, Gary Lee Inman, Jr. (Sherry Haws Inman); his step-son, Eric Hester (Laura Dykes); his daughter, Skyler Inman (Yoav Orot); and Millie's children, his step-children, F. Michael Norwich (Laura), Susan Norwich Burk (Col. Robert Kevin Burk US Army, Ret.), and Brett Norwich (Julia). Gary's paternal love also encompassed Garth Allin (Shelly Geisler). Gary is survived as well by his siblings--Eva Skinner, Ronnie Inman, Larry Inman, Patty Newcomb, and Dan Inman--as well as a seemingly uncountable number of nieces and nephews. At the time of his death, Gary was a grandfather to thirteen wonderful grandkids: F. Michael Norwich, III; Jeffrey Norwich; Jackson Norwich; Elizabeth Norwich; Louis Barnes, IV; Brenecke Barnes; Brett David Norwich, II; Reagan Norwich; Allen J. Little, Jr.; Lauren Little; Leslie Martinez; Aubree Allin; and June Lily Hester. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell Avery Inman and Sarah Louise Wells, and a brother, Lowell Gene Inman. A celebration of Gary's life will be held on Saturday, August 14th, at 10:00 at Hill Country Memorial Garden, 11700 State Highway 46W, Spring Branch, 78070.
