Evora Thomas Obituary (2025)

We pause today and bow in humble submission in memory of one so dear, whose life stood forth as a shining light for everyone to see. Her kindness and gentle spirit will forever be remembered by us all. Evora was born on March 23, 1938 in Epps, Louisiana to Alex Thomas Sr. and Flora Cooper. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She continued to walk by faith throughout her life and served in many areas of ministry as well as Pastor/Founder of Word of Faith Church. She was an active member of New Zion Temple Church under the leadership of Bishop Falls, Rock of Salvation Holiness Church, Bishop H. M. Bolden as well as Trinity Fellowship Church, Bishop G. E. Scott. Evora Thomas later became an active member and Chief Intercessor of Cornerstone of Faith Church under the leadership of her daughter, Dr. Paulette Thomas Taylor. Prior to her passing she was a member of Word of Restoration International Church, Apostle Charles E. Perry, Jr.. She worked many years as a home health aide and certified nursing assistant. Evora had a passion for helping people and opened a facility to assist people transitioning from being homeless to being able to function in society. Evora is known by many as a prayer warrior who has always stood in the gap for her family and friends. It is evident through the life she lived that salvation for her lineage was her top priority. She spent countless hours interceding for her family. For that we are eternally grateful. With sorrow among all, Ms. Evora Cooper Thomas made the transition to receive her crown of righteousness on Monday, January 13 , 2025. Those who have preceded her in death and await her arrival on the other side are her parents, her daughter Paula Woodward and son Jerry Thomas, Sr., bothers James Sanders, Lugene Longs, Otis Longs, Arthur Thomas, sisters Jessie Thomas and Dorothy Thomas. Left to cherish the life, love and memory that she shared with all are her three sons Dale Thomas (Olga), Mike Thomas (Barbara), and Marvin Bradford; three daughters Marilyn Taylor, Rena Obey (Darrell), Tamra Lewis (bonus daughter), and Paulette Thomas Taylor (Reginald); 5 brothers Alex Thomas Jr., James Thomas, Clyde Thomas, Cisero Thomas, and Mack Jackson ; 3 sisters Joyce Credic , Mazola Carey, and Bobbie Wilkerson; twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends that will truly miss her presence. A Tribute to Our Beloved Granna On behalf of all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her one precious great-great-grandchild, we stand together today to honor the incredible life of our grandmother—a woman who was truly one of a kind. Granna wasn’t just the matriarch of our family; she was the glue that held us all together and will continue to keep us together. She was our prayer warrior, the one who we knew would storm heaven’s gates on our behalf. Her faith wasn’t something she simply spoke about; it was something she lived. Every morning and night, you could find her bowed in prayer, praying for her family. Yes, all of us. But Granna was more than a spiritual giant; she was the heartbeat of our family. She had a personal relationship with every single one of us, each connection marked by secret handshakes, inside jokes, and memories that only we shared with her. No one walked into her house without feeling like the most important person in the world. She made sure of that. Whether it was a hug, a wink, or just the way she said your name, you left her presence knowing you were deeply loved. She wasn’t just a fighter in her prayers—she was a fighter in every sense of the word. Granna was tough as nails and didn’t back down from a challenge, even in her old age. If you came to her with a problem, she wasn’t just going to sit idly by. If the situation called for it, she was ready to go to war—even if that meant sending us to fight for her! But her fight was never just for herself; it was for her family. She instilled in all of us the same strength, courage, and determination that defined her life. Granna’s life was a living testimony of what it means to love fiercely. She taught us that family is everything. She made sure we knew that no disagreement, no outside force, and no challenge should ever come between us. She reminded us to stand together, to support each other, and to love each other unconditionally. When one of us was in need, Granna was the first to rally the troops, reminding us that we are stronger together. And because of her, we laugh together, pray together, travel together, and create memories that will last a lifetime. We can’t talk about Granna without mentioning her rule: no kissing on her—unless, of course, you were her grandchild or great-grandchild. Then, you had full permission to smother her in kisses, much to her delight (though she might grumble just a little, for show). Granna was never shy about standing beside us in anything we pursued. She was our biggest cheerleader, our fiercest protector, and our greatest example of what it means to live with faith, love, and purpose. She didn’t just talk about prayer and family; she lived it. The foundation she laid for us—a foundation of faith, love, and togetherness—is something that will never be shaken. She loved us all so deeply and uniquely that it’s hard to imagine life without her. But we take comfort in knowing that the lessons she taught us will live on in each of us. Her strength, her humor, her unwavering faith, and her boundless love will continue to shape our lives and the generations to come. Granna, we love you more than words can say. Thank you for being our rock, our prayer warrior, our fighter, and our biggest fan. Thank you for loving us unconditionally and for showing us what it means to love and support one another. You will always have a special place in each of our hearts. Rest now in the arms of the Lord, knowing that your legacy will carry on in all of us.
