Cristina Lucio Obituary (1957 - 2024)

Cris (Arras) Lucio – beloved mom, aunt, sister and grandmother -passed away peacefully in her home on June 8, 2024, after a 3-month battle with cancer. Cris was born in Pecos, Texas to Ernesto and Rosa Arras. She was a devoted mother to five children, Cori Flores (and partner David Bales, of Erick, Oklahoma), Ruben Lucio Jr. (and partner, Melissa Castillo, of Hereford, Texas), Ricky Lucio (of Hereford, Texas), Carmen Sustaita (and spouse Valentine Sustaita, of Amarillo, Texas) and Connie Lucio (and partner William Ramos, of Amarillo, Texas) – all of whom were her pride and joy – each in their own special way. Cris was always quick to tell others that her children were her saving grace - and each of their births changed her life for the better. Her children felt that in love she gave, and the countless ways in which she supported them through her never-ending prayers. Cris was preceded in death by her father, Ernesto Arras; her mother, Rosa Arras; two sisters, Norma Arras and Lidia Ornelas; her husband Demetrio Tarango, and a granddaughter Johanna Eliseth Lucio. She is survived by two sisters, Modesta Acevedo and Mary Chavez, both of Hereford; a brother, Alfredo Arras, of Amarillo; her five children; 19 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren - all of whom will never forget the love and joy she brought to their lives. Cris took special joy in spending quality time with her grandchildren. She loved to cook and bake - for and with them. Her favorite tradition was making sure that everyone had their favorite cake and meal on their birthday. But, in addition to good food and baked goods - she always took extra special care to also feed their souls. She did this by making sure there was always room in their hearts for the truly important things, such as laughter, joy, silliness, music, dancing, and Jesus. She was a creator of moments and cherisher of memories. Her favorite hobbies were playing volleyball, taking photographs, and planning sleepovers, movie nights, food fights, and other family outings and random adventures. Cris maintained a spirit of kindness, grace, strength, and faith up until the very end of her time here on earth. Despite her last battle being an extremely difficult one – she always kept a positive spirit, never faltered, and not once did she allow her trials to rob her of her smile. Cris overcame adversity and laid a strong foundation in the paths of those she leaves behind. Her imprint on this world will be the contribution of those she leaves behind - her legacy – one that is rooted in Christ and based on love and respect (for self, and others.) She will be dearly missed, and a void will be felt in the hearts of all who loved her.
