Claudesta Brooks Obituary (1936

Claudesta Brooks, age 76, departed this life Friday, April 26, 2013 at Summit Hospital in Hermitage, TN at 10:40 pm. surrounded by her loved ones. Funeral services will be 11a.m., Saturday at New First Pentecostal 509 N. Karwick Road with Rev. James Lane, officiating, visitation 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery. She was born November 11, 1936 in Canton, MS to the union of Hamblin Ward, Sr and Mary Lee Ward. She moved to Michigan City at the age of 8 and was baptized and accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She worked at Dage, National Can, Kaiser Aluminum and Indiana Department of Corrections Facility from where she retired in 2003. She relocated to LaVergne, TN in 2008. "Granny's" greatest love was enjoying her life with her family and friends, that love kept a smile on her face. She leaves to cherish her memory son, Brandon Brooks, Michigan City and daughter, Stephanie (Tony) Davis, LaVergne, TN; brothers, Kevin Ward, Indianapolis, IN, Carl Ward, Smyrna, TN, Will (Denise) Smith, Jr., Gary, IN, Clifton (Ruth) Smith, Dallas, TX, Lewis Smith, Flint, MI, Herbert (Joy) Smith, Flint, MI, Hamblin Ward, Jr., Gary, IN, Michael (Wendy) Ward, Atlanta, GA; sisters, Carolyn Ward, LaVergne, TN, Roxanne Garrett, Smyrna, TN, Mary Black, Houston, TX, Lorretta Johnson, Mesa, AZ, Dianne Ward, Gary, IN, Denise Roberts, Gary, IN, Sharon (Cletis) Welch, Suffolk, VA, Martha (Ulysses) Lacy, Gary, IN and Tracy Ward, Merrillville, IN also left to cherish her memory,six grandchildren (special grandchildren Gyla Cross and Michael (Sheila) Cross both of LaVergne, TN), Nine great grandchildren (special great grandchildren DeQuan and Michelle Cain both of LaVergne, TN), one great great grandchild; special cousins Gwendolyn Jackson, Wichita, KS and Sister George, Michigan City, IN and fpecial friend Maxine Hawkins, Michigan City, IN and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother Jannie Harris (Aunt Toad) and brothers Johnny Smith and Charles Smith.
