Arthur Sanders

Dr. Arthur Lee Sanders, age 90, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023. He was born January 3, 1933, in Phenix City, Alabama, the son of the late Walter Leon Sanders and Flossie Mae Bssant Sanders.

Dr. Sanders proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He earned his bachelor's degree from Troy State University, his master’s degree from the University of Georgia, and his doctorate from Ball State University. Dr. Sanders had a long career in education and served as a professor at the University of West Georgia for 25 years. He found enjoyment in playing golf, fishing, collecting antiques, and perhaps most importantly, cheering on his Georgia Bulldogs.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of over 66 years, Dr. Joann Johnson Sanders; his children, Vicki & Robert Warner, Lynne & Michael Traylor, and William Arthur Sanders; grandchildren, Kristi Michelle Davis, John Arthur Lee, Natalie Leann Tritt, Conner William Sanders, and Adriana Christine Rose Sanders; great-grandchildren, Kylee Michelle Davis, Brock Alexander Davis, Hayden Claire Tritt, and one on the way, Sullivan Grace Tritt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Sanders, and grandson, Christopher Michael Traylor.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 2:00 PM, with Dr. Stephen Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Tuesday from 12:00 PM until the hour of service.
