With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Anibal Luis Vera, affectionately known as Papo, who left this world too soon on February 23, 2024. Born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico on September 15, 1960, Anibal was a humble and generous soul who brought laughter and warmth to the lives of those around him. He carried the rhythms of salsa music in his heart, the spirit of Puerto Rico in his soul, and the love for his children at the core of everything he did. His stubborn nature was balanced by his supportive demeanor, always encouraging and helping those around him, including feeding the birds he loved so much. His legacy will forever be marked by his generosity; though he didn’t have much, he would always share what he had. Anibal was a man of many talents. He was a proud custodian at Fitchburg State College, a painter with a keen eye for detail at Concord Lumber, and was known for his speed as a city cab driver. His hobbies were simple but meaningful: spending time with his children, working on cars, collecting junk, and making genuine connections. He loved his music loud, a testament to his vibrant spirit. As Charles Dickens once said, "No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another." Anibal embodied this sentiment, his life a testament to his funny, supportive, and generous spirit. Anibal is survived by his beloved family: Jacqueline (Miguel) Velez, Michael Vera, Thomas Labaw, Maribel (Hector) Rodriguez, Maritza Rodriguez, Jesus Rodriguez, Elianna Velez, Melissa Cloutier, Shannon Caisse, Josefina Velez, Jose Velez, Alma Feliciano, Luz Lopez, Santo Matias, Julio Matias, Alexis Vera, Alberto Vera, Jorge Vera, Ruben Vera. He is preceded in death by his parents Aníbal González and Luz Matías, and his brothers Joselito Matias and Herminio Matias.
