Adell Swancey

Carrollton, Georgia

Ms. Adell M. Swancey, age 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, a reflection of the life she so beautifully built.

Born on March 28, 1930, at home in Carroll County, Georgia, Adell was the daughter of the late Marshall Young Johnson and Willie Myrle Bradley Johnson. Her story was one of quiet strength, joyful living, and deep devotion to those she loved.

As a young woman, Adell embraced life with a sense of adventure. Alongside her dear friends, Norma Edwards and Mina Holcombe, she moved to Atlanta in the 1940s to experience the excitement of city life. It was there that her journey led her to the love of her life, Lee Swancey. Together, they created a home filled with laughter, resilience, and unwavering love, a legacy that would continue for generations.

Adell dedicated many years of her life to her career at Magnavox, where her strong work ethic and commitment carried her through decades of service. Yet, her greatest joy was always found at home. Her house became a gathering place for family and friends, a place where summer days were spent around the pool, where laughter echoed, and where memories were made that will be cherished forever.

She found beauty in the simple things, tending to her flowers, nurturing her garden, and watching the birds that visited her yard. These quiet moments reflected the gentle and steady spirit that defined her life.

Adell’s life was also marked by service and faithfulness. She stood proudly beside her husband in his involvement with the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners, while she herself was a devoted member of the Eastern Star. Through her work with the Marietta American Legion Auxiliary, she gave countless hours in service to others, always with a willing heart and a humble spirit.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children and their spouses, Lee Swancey Jr., Hope and Rickey Gore, and Theresa Swancey Crews; her beloved grandchildren, Crystal Lee Cordero, Dustin Crews, Jesse McMichael, Emile Werner, Steve Collier Jr., Cassandra Striblin, Cameron Swancey, and Trenton Swancey; her 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Gail Carroll; and her brother, Kenny Johnson. In each of them, her love lives on—woven into their lives through the example she set.

She is now reunited with those who went before her; her parents; her beloved husband, Lee Edward Swancey, Sr.; and her siblings, Hullet Johnson, Billy Johnson, Melba Ballett, Ruby Booth, Lavern Warren, Wynell Rann, Shirlene Wiggins, and Hazel Cook.

A celebration of Adell’s life will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Shoemake and Rev. Lynn Janey officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Lee Swancey, Logan Camp, Jonathan Collier, Trenton Swancey, Jeremy Striblin, and Caleb Striblin serving as pallbearers.

Adell will be deeply missed, but her life is a beautiful reminder that love, when given freely and lived out daily, leaves a lasting mark that time can never erase.

The family kindly requests that those wishing to honor Adell’s memory consider sending live plants or flowers; something that can continue to grow and bring joy, just as she did throughout her life.
